A large addition to a fine Victorian country rectory, this airy frame houses both a large kitchen and a family room. There are four pairs of glazed oak double doors all supplied and fitted by Black Pig. The coverboards have greyed down to quite different levels due to the overall northerly aspect. To differing degrees where they are sheltered from the sun and rain close to the eaves and verges, they still retain a lovely rich honey colour but when one reaches the bottom boards, a uniform grey is evident. Image 06 shows something we love to see, a french drain. They are a wonderfully simple way of removing both surface water and water running off the glazed frame. But where they really excel is ensuring that the tannins that wash out of the oak coverboards for the first couple of years do not stain any expensive and porous hard paving.
